SAAHIR ALLAH R.I.P
And this is how it begins...With a transformation.  Death in the form of light.  Evil Youth on the prowl with hearts of gold.  This is the story of Epatomed.  That's demotape spelled backwards for you forward thinking folks out there.  I felt that I should start with this group because I always felt a special kinship with its members. Who now stand as Req Daley & Jurah Jarveh.  Here are the names of the people who have represented Epatomed through the years, Peanut, Cho, Bilal, Kasar, Saahir, Req Daly, & Jurah.  Now I hope that I am correct in saying that I first met the group in 1994.  Saahir Allah was always the front an of the group. One of the things I remember most about Saahir was that when there was something  agreed upon between us there was  always this handshake & straight forward eye to eye contact that I would get from him.  It was all about your word. It was all business at that moment.  But you know what?  I think & know it was more than about  business.  There was a bond being formed... I really had & have so much respect for the young lad. There was a time in my life when Saahir helped me out by getting me on at this place he was working.  Now let me tell you the God had a great mind.  What we did was sell law books to law firms.  It was hard because you had to convince these lawyers that they needed these law books.  You also had to know what you where talking about when you where talking to them.  Saahir was brilliant.  I would hear him time after time day after day win these people over.  I was terrible at it but he had it on lock.  He could talk about law with these people.  I used to trip out.  I was a great experience to bear witness to that & I am so thankful for him helping me out at that moment in my life.  He had crazy charisma. Me & Jurah where talking the other day and he mentioned  something about the light in Saahir's smile. When you peep the video up above check it out.  God body through & through. You know nobody is perfect & we all make mistakes but thats what life is...a process and it's a process that some never master. He had such determination.
SAAHIR ALLAH & TRU ASIA R.I.P.
Gov. name Eddie Adams  my first name is also Eddie we both had the same first names.  He was from Gary, In.  I was from Cincinnati, Oh. Speaking of Gary, In. I'm sure most of you all know of this famous place if you don't its the birth place of The Jackson 5.  The Jackson 5 taught me so much growing up that Saahir was like royalty to me because of that. Gary, In. is a hard place it always has been.  I guess greatness's home is where it lays its hat too.  I really liked him as a person.  I would invite him over to the house so he could get on the ASR10 and make beats & break bread with my family. Him & Asia.  It wasn't just about Hip-Hop.  Its always good to see the youth improve on art.  This is a perfect example of why I'm doing this blog because some of the memories are starting to fade so I need to get some of this stuff down & with everyones help I'll get it right.  One of my most vivid memories of the God was when I was a judge of a MC battle at Reciprocity (peace to my girl Tish!!!) against the God Styles.  For anyone who was there that day it was epic!!!!  It was a great battle now Styles won but it was like their were no losers.  It was fantastic.  Pure Underground Hip-Hop.  They both shot crazy fresh rhymes back at each it was everything great MC battles need to be great.  I saw the greatness then in Saahir & Epatomed. I started producing tracks for Epatomed after getting to know Saahir for a couple of years.  I did a track on the classic Liquid Bricks album & conducted an interview with the group as part of the album also.  I remember we recorded those tracks over my mellow Silent Assassin's crib (peace to you lord). Wow that was some years ago!!!!  I've done a lot of work with Epatomed through the years & have done some extremely dope music with them.  I think what I will do is play a track at this point. Break it up...Some of the last tracks that Saahir recorded I produced for him. This is one of those tracks.  EvIL YoUtH!!!!!!

I remember that I had made this beat tape & Saahir was crazy about this  one song but I could not find it anywhere.  I looked & looked & looked.  It just vanished.  Well that's what I thought but because I started looking a little futher & deeper I did find the song and this is that recording.  We recorded this and other tracks over at my man Drew's crib.  Drew was the drummer at one time for the band Dot-Matrix. Peace to Drew & all the members of Dot-Matrix.  Saahir & Tru Asia left us not long after this recording.

It Was A Blue Monday...

It was a  blue Monday & I suppose Monday's are always blue to some people.  On the morning of 1-27-03 I recieved a call from DJ BMX telling me that Saahir Allah & his queen  Tru Asia where killed in accident on Hwy 360 in Arlington.  Thats what made this Monday truly blue.   I was so shocked & just plain numb.  It truly was the day that the music died.  I do believe something weird happened  to the metroplex  at that moment.  Almost like a sink hole was formed & we all slid down into it.  It was tough on everybody who knew him.  None more than  their children & Saahir's crew.  There was a lot of symbolism involved also with their transformation.  They where near the exit of Hwy 360 & Trinity they had just released their album "360".  Saahir was very intuitive to his surroundings listen to his lyrics & learn.   I produced the beat for
 "Blue Monday
Jurah supplied the timely lyrics.   As Jurah states in the video above he has "known Saahir since the 4th grade". Its a great song so please listen to it.
 Powerful stuff!!!!!!

"EPATOART"

I have always believe that to truly be a great MC you have to understand the elements of Hip-Hop.  The two pieces up above show that they understood that.  The two pieces  up above represent Hip-Hop in every way.

And Then There Where Two

After Saahir's transformation the group continued on & is still a group although there hasn't  been another  release since 360.  The group now consist of Req Daley & Jurah Jarveh.  Although recordings have been made & solo projects are being finished even as I write this post there is now word when the next Epatomed album will come out.  I know we all await that moment & hope that moment is soon.  I thought it would be cool if I added some things that never got release that I produced with the group & with  some of the Knowledge Born camp like Ginns & J Flamez.  Epatomed is a movement that will always be.  A school of MC's!!!!  I hope you enjoy this some of them you have heard some maybe not.  Peace & Blessings

LIQUID BRICKS
liquid Bricks  was a great album and it was also the first time that I got to work with the group. I'm not even sure what exactly what went down but Epatomed have always loved my tracks & I've always thought they where a dope group.  I will start off by saying one of my favorite Epatomed songs are on this album which is "Rhinos".  I love this song.  It has everything I want to hear in a dope Underground Hip-Hop track.  I produced two tracks on Liquid Bricks , one being "Real Is What You Feel" & the interview that was used for the album.  On the interview Saahir wanted it to seem like we where at KNON but we where really just in Silent Assassin's sound booth ( his closet converted into a recording booth).  We were all huddled around the mike and I proceeded to conduct the interview.  "Real Is What You Feel"  is the first of many songs I would record with the group.  There have been only a few groups or individuals that I have recorded with & with Epatomed being one of those makes me very proud.  I've got a few tracks off of  that album & I've got a butta blend that starts off with "Rhinos" then goes into M.O.P.  loaded up in the player below.  Liquid Bricks put it out there for everyone to see & feel.  Enjoy!!!!  Peace & Blessings DJ Ez Eddie D

  1. Eddie this is pure gold. Thanks for posting this. I look forward to more Dallas Hip-Hop history being dropped here. Do you know where I can get a copy of Liquid Bricks? I got it on cassette, I think it was at Dread and Irie in 98 or 99 and lost it a little while after. Listening to this stuff makes me miss that album so much..
