5Star Eddie Cigar's Butta Blends & Scientifical Stuff!!!
This blog is about Underground Hip-Hop & what it means to me. Since 1987 I've had an underground hip-hop radio show on Knon 89.3fm in Dallas, Tx. This blog will focus on the past present & future of Hip-Hop in Dallas & in our world. Call it an archive of sorts. I will have all kinds of munchies for you to upload & listen to. I want the world to know & feel what Dallas Underground is all about. Peace & Blessings
Well lets see...I was born in Cincinnati, Oh. in 1961. Moved to Dallas about 1981. Started out at KNON 89.3fm in 1984. I got my own show in 1987. My show was first called Down by Sound then K-D-L-T & now K-D-L-T vol.2. Hip-Hop is my life.
For God So Loved The World That He Gave His Only SUN A Chance To Rock The World On The Wheels Of Steel!!!!!!!
Peace, Peace, Peace!!!!! It is so good to be back making posts again. Its been a rough couple of weeks but you how it is... you can't keep Hip Hop down!!!! I wanted to take a minute on this post to thank my crew who help me every week down at the station. I want to thank first DJ Spidermanwho will be back soon. He is a great man and one hell of a DJ. Spiderman was just one of those cats who when I first met him I knew I had to bring him in. He was sitting outside of the Gypsy Tea Roomone evening and I decided that this would be the perfect time to ask him. I did and he excepted. I had always had guest DJ's come down and spin but i wanted to have someone permanent on the show. He had the right attitude that i needed plus his skills where on point. Hip-Hop in the 'plex' was all the better at that moment. Although he has not been back down at the show for some time now he still is a part of the crew and will always be (just like the I.G.P.). My other 2 members are Mo Ney Stax & Slago. Mo Ney is a beautiful rose but do not sleep she keeps her thorns sharp just like her lyrics when she spits. She too has been a blessings ever since she came aboard. I wanted to have a female presence on the show and to be honest Mo Neycame to my mind first. Understand not only is she a great MC but a mother & wife so I thought it would be a great fit. Its not all about Hip-Hop all the time its also about life and I got crazy respect for Mo Ney & my mellow The Rapture for how they balance everything. Its an inspiration to me and it should be for you. Well that leaves us with my mellow Slago!!! I first met him at the Monkey Bar(R.I.P.) when i was a judge for one of the "Beat Down" producer showcases (Peace to the oneRob Vicktum!!!!!) I forgot who I picked to win. I think it was Playdough but I do know that Slago came in second. After the judging was over I went up to speak to him. As I was talking to him I felt that I had to make him a part of the show. The way that he carried himself,as young as he was, impressed me. Not to mention that his beats were all on point. See if for some reason I ever decide to leave the show I want to leave it with someone who understands exactly whatKDLT Vol.2is all about and my mellow has shown & proved that I was right in choosing him for the task. He is on the move as a great producer in the industry & proudly says that KDLT will always be on his resume. My crew is all about the Underground . I feel that I have a great team and we will continue to try and bring you the best that we can in Underground Hip Hop. We do not care what everybody else is doing. If you don't believe in yourself and what your doing don't expect anybody else to either. I've got to go now because I've got a radio show to do but I've got something buttery for you and yours to groove to. This is a blend that I'm playing today on the show. Today is Halloween. I hate this holiday. It says alot about the hypocrisies that we all have to deal with in this country. We are evil enough to each other in every day life. Useless to take one day out of the year to pretend like that's the only time we act evil. STRANGE INDEED!!!!!!!
I love Hip-Hop, it has opened many doors for me & brought many wonderful people into my life. I feel truly lucky to be able to contribute something to the culture & growth of Hip-Hop. I started this blend today wanting to do something different which is something I try to do with every blend so same approach as usual . I decided to start off with "Fame" by David Bowie then I eased into something from Us3's, "From the streets" feat. Sene. Then I chopped up some David Axelrod & blended it into the butta. Added some M.O.P. into the mix. This is when we get instrumental on you, Thanks to my man Spank I blend in "Cream" by El Micheal's "Enter the 37th Chamber". It's a band that plays all Wu Beats. I push the limits (only cause it sounds good) by adding "Hey Bulldog" by the Beatles. I've been wanting to do more Blast Master KRS-One so here it is. It seems that theres more to be done and there is. I throw some Billy Idol & Tribe Called Quest just for another hidden layer of flava!!!!! Now since I got your permission to "KICK IT" I will end it with Do It All's "Surrender"!!!!!! This is why Hip-Hop is so beautiful. I know that there is nobody blending like this. I really trip when I'm through & listen to the finished blend & I'm so excited & can't wait for someone to hear them. A lot of people haven't heard my blends & I have nobody to blame for that but myself. Todays a new day though and I can move on from that negative thought process. So many people have paved the way for us not only in Hip-Hop but throughout history. "Each one teach one"!!!! Hopefully thats what will happen for our community & the world. There is so much more butta to come so stay tuned or better yet "Keep your ear to the speaker"! Peace & BlessingsDJ Ez Eddie D HOSTED FREE AT MYDATANEST.COM
Yes yes ya'll!!!! I was messing around yesterday and did this blend. Its pretty fresh. I start off with "Foul Child" off the new Monie Love, I blend this with "We Will Rock You" by Queen & then I get into Skills "I'm Just An Average Guy" then I go into a little "Stairway to Heaven". Its pretty fresh. You should check it out. Wild Style 6000 thats what that is!!!!! Listen to the whispering wind. I might play this on the show this Sat. but you get to peep the flava a little early. Street Soldiers style standing tall. I just love me some Hip Hop!!!!! What does it mean to be Underground ? Well if your reading this your Underground!!! Hello good people. Hope the weekend was good for you. I just got through the weekend as you did & it was impossible for me to find the time to write anything until now. I was spinning Sat. & Sun in front of Dude Sweet Chocolate in the Bishop Arts District . Crazy fun. Good chocolate!!! Hey this is no joke go down & check out Katherine's shop. She's got this chocolate called 'Vincotto' I highly (hey hey) recommend it. Good food for the munchies. It was a lot of fun spinning & it was really a nice weekend all around . I also saw a great show with my girl DJ Sista Whitenoise at the Kessler Theater in Oak Cliff. It was Earl Harvin&Mikey Dillon playing together both who I have known for over 20 years. They rocked the house. It was crazy fresh. I have never seen anything like it. Beats where so fresh & dope!!!! Well earlier that day I had my radio show & it was also very fresh & dope. Its a small world after all they say. Saturday it was just me & my mellow Slago (good luck this weekend). Money didn't make it down this week (peace to her, Rapture & the whole Rap-Mo family). We started off the show with Cap D's "Respect". Man it was a dope way to start off the show. Please check out this track when you can. Its FIRE!!! From there it was just a walk in the park. A "Saturday In The Park". Please enjoy this blend that I loaded in the player below. I played it on show Saturday. Its got "Criminal Minded" as the starting point then it goes into "Gangsters & Crooks" by Drew Bullets & John Mac then my mellow Seneca & so on. Just wanted to take a break & post this real quick I will be adding more to the Epatomed post later today. Peace & Blessings DJ Ez Eddie D HOSTED FREE AT MYDATANEST.COM
And this is how it begins...With a transformation. Death in the form of light. Evil Youth on the prowl with hearts of gold. This is the story ofEpatomed. That'sdemotapespelled backwards for you forward thinking folks out there. I felt that I should start with this group because I always felt a special kinship with its members. Who now stand as ReqDaley & JurahJarveh. Here are the names of the people who have represented Epatomed through the years, Peanut, Cho, Bilal, Kasar, Saahir, Req Daly, & Jurah. Now I hope that I am correct in saying that I first met the group in 1994. Saahir Allah was always the front an of the group. One of the things I remember most about Saahir was that when there was something agreed upon between us there was always this handshake & straight forward eye to eye contact that I would get from him. It was all about your word. It was all business at that moment. But you know what? I think & know it was more than about business. There was a bond being formed... I really had & have so much respect for the young lad. There was a time in my life when Saahir helped me out by getting me on at this place he was working. Now let me tell you the God had a great mind. What we did was sell law books to law firms. It was hard because you had to convince these lawyers that they needed these law books. You also had to know what you where talking about when you where talking to them. Saahir was brilliant. I would hear him time after time day after day win these people over. I was terrible at it but he had it on lock. He could talk about law with these people. I used to trip out. I was a great experience to bear witness to that & I am so thankful for him helping me out at that moment in my life. He had crazy charisma. Me & Jurah where talking the other day and he mentioned something about the light in Saahir's smile. When you peep the video up above check it out. God body through & through. You know nobody is perfect & we all make mistakes but thats what life is...a process and it's a process that some never master. He had such determination.
SAAHIR ALLAH & TRU ASIA R.I.P. Gov. name Eddie Adams my first name is also Eddiewe both had the same first names. He was from Gary, In. I was from Cincinnati, Oh. Speaking of Gary, In. I'm sure most of you all know of this famous place if you don't its the birth place of The Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 taught me so much growing up that Saahir was like royalty to me because of that. Gary, In. is a hard place it always has been. I guess greatness's home is where it lays its hat too. I really liked him as a person. I would invite him over to the house so he could get on the ASR10and make beats & break bread with my family. Him & Asia. It wasn't just about Hip-Hop. Its always good to see the youth improve on art. This is a perfect example of why I'm doing this blog because some of the memories are starting to fade so I need to get some of this stuff down & with everyones help I'll get it right. One of my most vivid memories of the God was when I was a judge of a MC battle atReciprocity (peace to my girl Tish!!!) against the God Styles. For anyone who was there that day it was epic!!!! It was a great battle now Styles won but it was like their were no losers. It was fantastic. PureUnderground Hip-Hop. They both shot crazy fresh rhymes back at each it was everything great MC battles need to be great. I saw the greatness then in Saahir & Epatomed. I started producing tracks for Epatomed after getting to know Saahirfor a couple of years. I did a track on the classic Liquid Bricksalbum & conducted an interview with the group as part of the album also. I remember we recorded those tracks over my mellow SilentAssassin's crib (peace to you lord). Wow that was some years ago!!!! I've done a lot of work with Epatomed through the years & have done some extremely dope music with them. I think what I will do is play a track at this point. Break it up...Some of the last tracks that Saahirrecorded I produced for him. This is one of those tracks. EvIL YoUtH!!!!!! "EVILYOUTH"bySAAHIRALLAHR.I.P. HOSTED FREE AT MYDATANEST.COM I remember that I had made this beat tape & Saahir was crazy about this one song but I could not find it anywhere. I looked & looked & looked. It just vanished. Well that's what I thought but because I started looking a little futher & deeper I did find the song and this is that recording. We recorded this and other tracks over at my manDrew's crib. Drew was the drummer at one time for the band Dot-Matrix. Peace to Drew& all the members ofDot-Matrix. Saahir & Tru Asia left us not long after this recording.
It Was A Blue Monday...
It was a blue Monday & I suppose Monday's are always blue to some people. On the morning of 1-27-03 I recieved a call from DJBMX telling me that SaahirAllah & his queen TruAsia where killed in accident on Hwy 360 in Arlington. Thats what made this Monday truly blue. I was so shocked & just plain numb. It truly was the day that the music died. I do believe something weird happened to the metroplex at that moment. Almost like a sink hole was formed & we all slid down into it. It was tough on everybody who knew him. None more than their children & Saahir's crew. There was a lot of symbolism involved also with their transformation. They where near the exit of Hwy 360 & Trinity they had just released their album "360". Saahir was very intuitive to his surroundings listen to his lyrics & learn. I produced the beat for
"Blue Monday"
&
Jurah supplied the timely lyrics. As Jurah states in the video above he has "known Saahir since the 4th grade". Its a great song so please listen to it.

I have always believe that to truly be a great MC you have to understand the elements of Hip-Hop. The two pieces up above show that they understood that. The two pieces up above represent Hip-Hop in every way.
And Then There Where Two
After Saahir's transformation the group continued on & is still a group although there hasn't been another release since 360. The group now consist of Req Daley &JurahJarveh. Although recordings have been made & solo projects are being finished even as I write this post there is now word when the next Epatomed album will come out. I know we all await that moment & hope that moment is soon. I thought it would be cool if I added some things that never got release that I produced with the group & with some of the Knowledge Born camp like Ginns & J Flamez. Epatomed is a movement that will always be. A school of MC's!!!! I hope you enjoy this some of them you have heard some maybe not. Peace & Blessings
LIQUID BRICKS liquid Bricks was a great album and it was also the first time that I got to work with the group. I'm not even sure what exactly what went down but Epatomed have always loved my tracks & I've always thought they where a dope group. I will start off by saying one of my favorite Epatomed songs are on this album which is "Rhinos". I love this song. It has everything I want to hear in a dope Underground Hip-Hop track. I produced two tracks on Liquid Bricks , one being "Real Is What You Feel" & the interview that was used for the album. On the interview Saahir wanted it to seem like we where at KNON but we where really just in Silent Assassin's sound booth ( his closet converted into a recording booth). We were all huddled around the mike and I proceeded to conduct the interview. "Real Is What You Feel" is the first of many songs I would record with the group. There have been only a few groups or individuals that I have recorded with & with Epatomed being one of those makes me very proud. I've got a few tracks off of that album & I've got a butta blend that starts off with "Rhinos" then goes into M.O.P. loaded up in the player below. Liquid Bricks put it out there for everyone to see & feel. Enjoy!!!! Peace & Blessings DJ Ez Eddie D
HOSTED FREE AT MYDATANEST.COM JURAH JARVEH INTERVIEW I found this interview on YouTube of Jurah and what better place to have than here. "Just A Young Black Male" !!!!! Peace to Kimberly K. for doing such a great interview. Peace & Blessings
How great thou art is right. On 9/25/2010 KDLT Vol 2. had a great surprise drop by the station. Sweet LD of Oaktown 357. fame stopped by for a super dope interview. Crazy thanks to my man Ty Mac of Shabazz 3 fame & producer/recording engineer X-traordinare who mans the mixing boards at Alpha Omega Recording Studios in Ft. Worth he's the chap who brought Sweet LD to the station. LD started off as one of Mc Hammer's back up dancers back in the 80's. At some point during the journey rhymes where added & the group OaKtown 357 was formed. The group released their first album in 1989, "Oaktown's 357 Wild & Loose". There where 2 albums altogether with "Fully Loaded" the 2nd being released in 1991 . One of my favorite Oaktown songs is Yeah, Yeah, Yeah if you care. Sweet LD also got wreck on the classic "We're All In The Same Gang". With all that going for her and more I knew it was going to be a great interview. Man O Man was it. It has to be one of my favorite interviews ever & I have had a lot. She had a lot to say about the state of Hip-Hop now & back then, how we look at todays youths role in Hip-Hop & great ideals on how we should address the young people who need more positive attention & less of the critical banter. I took a lot away from the interview. It was the bomb. I've added the audio portion of the interview so you can hear how it went down. It was such a great day down at the station. Thanks again to my mellow Ty Mac & Sweet LD for blessing us at the station. Big ups to my right hand man Slago who's going to Atlanta to take part in the iStandard Producers Showcase at the A3C Festival in Atlanta, Ga. next Friday. Congratulation to him & "Bring Home The Gold"!!!!! Peace & Blessings DJ Ez Eddie D.
Ty Mac, Sweet LD, M Slago, Ez Eddie D, & Dread Black getting our Underground Hip Hop on!!!!!!!
Hello to everyone. Hope your doing fine & turning hope into action.Well I decided that I would showcase a couple of dance blends for your recommended daily ear consumption intake allowance!!!!! This is when things get scientifical!!!!! Being able to blends all kinds of music is what i get a charge from! Whats great about that is when you go through different styles of music you some times don't have to beat match because the use of the two different styles of music now becomes the blend & you can just segue from one to another. Now I will use this technique when needed but when you beat match & or blend you create another layer of funk. Stacking funk should be a part of every breakfast to start each & everyones day. Believe dat!!!! So thats what this post is about "Scientifical Dance Funk(The Stack Files)"!!! This post is also dedicated to my man George Baum. I took this picture of him last Friday night while he was spinning at Lee Harvey's. George is one of my favorite Dj's because of his music knowledge & selection. I love listening to him play. These 2 dance blends go out to him. The blog & blends where inspired in part by him. I must admit though that i also learned how & why this aspect of Djing is important & how fresh it could be from Dj Sista Whitenoise. Things can be revealed if you open your third eye to learn. So let me put this out to both of them. As a Dj its our responsibility to also educate the dance floor not just make them dance. Everybody wants to play the same thing these days. If your going to be a Dj be a Dj its not always all about the blend or the crazy fresh cutz on the 'wheels of steel'. Its about the music. It always has been & always will be. So many things get broken down from its original state like soul music or classic rock & so on that we forget how great & timeless, super groovy & 'a stone cold gas baby' this music was & is. There is so much great music out there past & present its crazy. Its a big world out there doing big things. Maybe we need to step outside the box & our block to & see & feel whats really going on. Dj bravado is what's going on!!!! Go & pick some up at your nearest drug store or go & ask your doctor for some!!!! Yes I'm peddling SCIENTIFICAL FUNK!!!!!! Enjoy Peace & Blessings DJ Ez Eddie D.
